Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was impeached by Kenya's Parliament in October 2024 and removed from office. On June 8, 2026, a three-judge High Court bench upheld the impeachment while finding that his fair-hearing rights had been violated during Senate proceedings, awarding him KSh 50 million in damages but leaving his removal intact. Gachagua has since filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal seeking to have the Senate's impeachment resolution declared unconstitutional, null, and void. This market resolves based on whether a Kenyan appellate court (Court of Appeal or Supreme Court) issues a ruling overturning or nullifying the impeachment before the market's resolution date.
This market resolves Yes if either the Court of Appeal or the Supreme Court of Kenya issues a final ruling that overturns, nullifies, or otherwise reverses Rigathi Gachagua's October 2024 impeachment and removal from the office of Deputy President, on or before December 31, 2026. This market resolves No if: No such ruling is issued by December 31, 2026, regardless of whether the appeal is still pending, or A ruling is issued that upholds the impeachment (in whole or in part) without nullifying it. A partial ruling that finds procedural violations but does not reverse the impeachment outcome (as the High Court did on June 8, 2026) counts as No. If proceedings are stayed, adjourned, or otherwise delayed such that no ruling is issued by the resolution date, this market resolves No based on the status at that date — it will not be extended.
